What is trademark watching?
We regularly monitor similar new applications in the Official Trademark Bulletin.
Trademark watching is the regular review of the Official Trademark Bulletin published by TÜRKPATENT (the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office) to identify new applications that resemble your mark. The Bulletin is the official publication in which applications that have passed the Office’s examination are announced. An application that is likely to be confused with your earlier mark is, in most cases, refused only if you file an opposition. This is why it matters to spot similar applications within the two-month period following publication.
How do we proceed?
- 1
Watch scope
Together with you, we define the marks, classes and any competitor companies to be watched.
- 2
Bulletin screening
We screen the applications in each new Official Trademark Bulletin according to the agreed scope.
- 3
Similarity assessment
We review the applications found for similarity and likelihood of confusion.
- 4
Reporting
We report applications that need attention together with the publication date and the last day to oppose.
- 5
Opposition support
At your request, we prepare a reasoned opposition and file it with the Office in time.

The watching difference
Without watching
- The two-month opposition period may pass before a similar application is noticed.
- Refusal grounds based on similarity are examined only upon opposition.
- Longer routes, such as an invalidation action, may later be needed.
Watching with Kupon Patent
- Similar applications are reported after the Bulletin is published.
- Opposition grounds and evidence can be prepared before the deadline.
- Competitor and sector filings become regularly visible.
Watching helps you use your right to oppose in time; the decision rests with TÜRKPATENT.
Publications monitored
Trademark applications in Türkiye are published in TÜRKPATENT’s Official Trademark Bulletin. Where you need coverage abroad, WIPO’s international trademark gazette and EUIPO publications can also be included in the scope.

?What is trademark watching and why is it needed?
Your trademark is registered today.
But the Office usually does not examine similar new applications on its own; it examines them if an opposition is filed. Following the applications in the bulletin is the owner’s responsibility; watching is that follow-up.
